Now that summer is gone and winter coming around the corner I will be adding a lot of articles to the site. Over the summer I took pics and video to help you not only grow a great garden but how to raise hens. In Jan we’ll be featuring seminars in the area to show you how to get ready for the spring EARLY! also other “green” ways of living.
On the right you’ll see a link for our newsletter. AS we post articles to the site we’ll also send it out to the people on our newsletter.
GREENHOUSES! we have worked out a deal with Solexx to resell affordable greenhouse. I have my own greenhouse and am here to say that it is worth its weight in GOLD! I have also made contact with some local people that are happy to install the greenhouses, run water and electric to it. Then we will come in and set up your drip irrigation or show you how.
Get your beds set up right now. Its still time to grow a lot of things and starting Sept we begin planting for fall and winter crops. You still have plenty of growing months ahead.
Plus if you install your beds now or in the fall & sign up for a subscription program I’ll start working on your 2009 growing schedule. Starting Jan & Feb I will already be growing your plants ready to install March & April. You’ll have a BIG jump on the season and depending on the plan you choose seeds and plants are included. I love surprising you with delicious produce you can’t find in the supermarkets. Only subscribers qualify to get in on our winter grow plan. We’ll be growing some exotic herbs as a well in limited amounts. REAL curry leaf, lemon grass, kaffir lime, and more. We will be supplying citrus, lemons and limes to our subscription customers that are full fruiting. This includes Meyer Lemon, Key limes and more. When winter comes we pick them up and bring them into the greenhouse. Tree program are only available to customers who elect 2 times a month visits because they require special care. Tomatoes are the most grown home garden fruit/vegetable in the US. Commercial tomatoes are sprayed with so many chemicals its not even funny. Over the next few months and even during winter we will be sharing some helpful How To Guides on growing successfully in raised beds. I came across this great article on pruning tomatoes that has execellent pictures. Pruning tomatoes correctly will keep your plant healthy and produce a more LARGE tomatoes! This is a video of my own raised beds and test garden. I have two gardens - one raised where I test different types of plants, soil, conditions and the beds. This small garden is very easy to put together and can grow MOUNTAINS of food. As you’ll learn in the video, I am in between seasons, ready to plant another crop and next month I’ll begin to plan my fall crop, however with raised beds and the right setup I can start melons in July and have a whole second crop. This is a guide printed on the web at another site. its simple and easy to follow, however I want to point out that when growing in raised beds you can often grow sooner and get longer seasons. For instance in the early spring when there is still frost I cover my beds to create a greenhouse effect and can start my plants much sooner.
But as you can see from the guide VA has a few seasons, thanks to our great weather and there is no reason not to grow green most of the year!

I just got off the phone with Kitty from the Virginia Food Bank in Salem. She is going to compile a list of local agencies in and around Danville where extra harvest and food can be dropped off. We will be posting this info for gardeners that are already producing and families that would like to donate now.
Maybe you have a few fruit trees that produce more then you can eat? If you don’t have time to pick it or unsure what to do drop me a line. I’m not sure yet how we’ll go about doing this but we’ll figure out the details as we go! I’m also happy to help you find resources so that you can begin using organic products for your lawn and garden.
If anyone would like to help work on organizing this, please contact me info@dancingcreekfarm.com
There are so many people that can’t afford fresh produce and healthy foods. Now you can grow healthy food for your family and feed families that might not be able to get fresh foods.
Lets help stomp out hunger everywhere! Lets start a great trend right here in Danville!

No matter the size of your yard, courtyard or where you live you can grow pesticide free, healthy food anywhere. Let us design and set up your raised bed garden and completely automate and service it for you. Why spend 3.50 a pound for mealy tomatoes when you can grow enough for you, your neighbors and donate some to food banks and shelters.
Grow exotic veggies, wonderful herbs, salads, fruits and more. Our easy bed system you can do it yourself with no tools! Or we’ll do it all- soil, seeds, plants, trellis’s, irrigation and more!

We are passionate about helping people become part of a mega trend in going & growing green to save our environment. Although we spend a lot of free time doing this we still need to make money to live and continue our vision. When you purchase the beds from us you pay the same as you would retail, however we get %20 on the bed purchase. Currently we make no money on the supplies so you pay what we pay. Therefore in order for us to make money we charge for our time in setting up and maintaining your beds or greenhouse. Later we home to open a store to sell seeds, supplies and tools.
If you build your own bed, do the work, we are still happy to show you how and support you because our main goal is to get Danville Growing Green! Please add your name to our newsletter for specials and upcoming events. Each season we will also grow plants in our greenhouse for sale. Some of these will be plants you don’t normally find at your typical garden center.
Once you have selected your beds we will work up the cost to add soil, seeds and irrigation. Its not as expensive as you might think. Once your beds are set up you’ll enjoy many years of growing. Each growing season we’ll test the soil and add whatever needs to be added to meet your needs. We can simply sell you the beds, give you a list and support you doing the work yourself or we can do it for you.
We get paid by the hour. Our hourly rate is $35.00. Set-up time depends on how many beds or what we do. We can quote you after you decide on the size and number of beds you need. Once your beds are set-up we will bill you 30.00 a month to come out to check and work on your garden system. If you are outside the Danville area a trip charge may apply.
You’ll pay extra for seeds, soil, plants, fertilizers, irrigation , etc. We’ll have more info on these cost later as well as a place to purchase supplies. A typical 4 X 6 bed will cost around 100.00 to irrigate and the beds added to the first bed a LOT cheaper because then its only tubing. We’ll save you time and money from buying kits that have parts you probably will never use.
If you are on a monthly subscription at 35.00 a month we keep track of plants and keep your garden growing. We may suggest reseeding every 2-3 weeks so you always have a fresh crop.
